The area is unique with granite walled laneways and quarries from which Ballyknockan village was renowned for the high quality granite which was supplied to build many of the fine buildings in Dublin.

The Old Lane

There are many walks nearby both easy and hard. You can take a leisurely stroll around the village and admire the stonemasons fine work in many of the buildings or if you are an experienced hill walker you can climb Monbane (703m), Mullaghcleevaun (847m) and enjoy the fantastic views over the planes of Kildare. When finished come back to us and we will feed you and entertain you with live music every Saturday and Sunday.

Just a brief stop as we drove round the lake on a gorgeous July evening. There was a great wee band playing, enjoyed a drink outside in the sunshine listening to the music. Warm welcome and a very nice wee spot
